Hakkarainen was placed on unconditional waivers by Vegas on Wednesday for the purpose of terminating his contract, per CapFriendly.
Hakkarainen was acquired by the Golden Knights in the deal that sent Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury to Chicago. The move to release the 23-year-old center could clear the way for him to return to his native Finland to continue his hockey career. At this point, Hakkarainen shouldn't be expected to break into the NHL and can be dropped in dynasty/keeper formats.
