Just four weeks remain until the 2022 Breeders' Cup, and on Saturday at Keeneland Race Course, several current and future stars of the sport will get their final tune-ups. Saturday's loaded 11-race Keeneland card is anchored by the 2022 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity and 2022 Coolmore Turf Mile. The former features a full 14-horse field of 2023 Kentucky Derby hopefuls, while the latter is a wide-open affair with 12 of the country's top grass milers. The Todd Pletcher-trained Forte is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the 2022 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity odds, while the Brendan Walsh-trained Santin is the 7-2 favorite in the 2022 Coolmore Turf Mile odds. One surprise: Menez is completely fading Forte, even though he is the 3-1 favorite in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity 2022 odds. A $110,000 purchase as a yearling, Forte has two wins in three career starts. But while some of his rivals already have won around two turns, Forte will make his first start around two turns. "A son of Violence, Forte may not like the extra distance on Saturday," Menez told SportsLine.
Another surprise: In the Coolmore Turf Mile 2022, Menez is fading Santin, even though he is the 7-2 favorite. Trained by Brendan Walsh, Santin has two wins and one second in five starts this year. "He's definitely improving, but his two wins this year came on a quirky turf course at Churchill Downs at nine furlongs," Menez told SportsLine. Menez has four horses ranked ahead of Santin.
