2017 Masters odds: Dustin Johnson now heavy favorite to win green jacket
The No. 1 golfer in the world is playing like he's going to win his first Masters
I choose to believe the Masters runs through Jordan Spieth. That’s not what Vegas thinks, though. Dustin Johnson, following his third-straight win on Sunday at the WGC-Dell Match Play, is now the 5-1 favorite to win the 2017 Masters.
He is followed very closely by Spieth and Rory McIlroy. Jason Day, who just had to pull out of the Match Play to tend do his mother who has lung cancer, is down to 16-1, which is the lowest number I’ve seen on him for the Masters in two years.
Here is the current top 10, according to Bovada.
- Dustin Johnson: 5-1
- Jordan Spieth: 7-1
- Rory McIlroy: 7-1
- Jason Day: 16-1
- Hideki Matsuyama: 16-1
- Jon Rahm: 18-1
- Justin Thomas: 25-1
- Henrik Stenson: 25-1
- Phil Mickelson: 25-1
- Adam Scott: 28-1
- Justin Rose: 28-1
- Rickie Fowler: 28-1
Jon Rahm! How about that? Rahm, a rookie playing in his first Masters, is an 18-1 favorite to win. A win by him would be pretty historic as a golfer has not taken home a green jacket in his first run at Augusta National since Fuzzy Zoeller did it in 1979.
This is the first time Johnson has been this big of a favorite. It’s deserved, too. D.J. has won three in a row and is riding an historic heater. He talked about the upcoming Masters after his win at the WGC-Dell Match Play last week.
“Masters is always a tournament that I look forward to every year,” Johnson said. “I really like that golf course. I really like going to Augusta. It’s one of my favorite tournaments to play every year. I’ve actually played good there the last two years. I’m excited to go back when the game is in good form. I feel like everything is working pretty well.”
That could be bad news for the rest of the field. Johnson has finished in the top 10 each of the last two years here, and he looks like he’ll finish runner up to no man come Sunday at Augusta.
