After shooting a 73 on Thursday at the U.S. Women's Open in Bedminster, New Jersey, Michelle Wie could only make it through one hole on Friday before she had to withdraw with a neck injury.

Wie actually almost withdrew on Thursday during a painful first round at a tournament she won in 2014. She said she first felt the injury during the KPMG Women's PGA Championship a few weeks ago, and it has seemingly not gotten better.

"I went back on the range, it was raining, felt OK," Wie told NJ.com of her pre-round routine on Thursday. "And then I hit one drive at the end that completely seized it back up. And I honestly -- I called the rule official over and I was ready to pull out. I just couldn't swing. And then thankfully the physios came and I had 15 minutes and, you know, I made it through."

Wie took to social media to explain her WD and how bummed she was.

"The U.S. Open is by far one of my favorite tournaments, and I was looking forward to playing this event all year," Wie wrote on Instagram. "I SO BADLY wanted to play today and the rest of this week. I have been battling a neck injury and have been receiving treatment every day in order to be able to play."

She went on to say that she's making an effort to be ready for the Women's Scottish Open as well as the Women's British Open.

Thank you guys so much for your support...it's what gets me through times like these ❤️❤️ #SeeYouInScotland
