2025 Ryder Cup Day 2 results: Europe sweeps team sessions in historic battering of United States

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- History continues to be made at the 2025 Ryder Cup. Unfortunately, for those stateside, the United States remains on the wrong side of it. Europe has amassed a mammoth 11.5 to 4.5 lead at Bethpage Black, becoming the first road team to sweep the opening four sessions of a Ryder Cup since the Americans and Europeans began going head-to-head in 1979.

At 7 points, Europe now holds the largest advantage entering Sunday singles in modern Ryder Cup history. It previously won the opening four sessions at home in 2006, the only prior time either side has successfully swept the other before singles competition.

While the deficit is technically not insurmountable for United States -- 12 points are up for grabs Sunday in one-on-one matchups -- it will require monumental effort by an American side that has heretofore not looked to be in the same class as their European counterparts in any phase of the competition.

No Ryder Cup team has ever earned more than 8.5 points through singles, a feat accomplished four times previously -- twice by each side. Europe scoring 8.5 points or more Sunday would pass the 20-point threshold, which has never been accomplished before. The United States would need to win 10 of 12 singles matches in order to win the Ryder Cup, an extremely difficult if not impossible task.

Sinking the U.S. has been the play of the entire team, notably on the greens where the Americans have been unable to sink putts despite captain Keegan Bradley setting the course up to cater to his side's strengths.

Not helping matters is Scottie Scheffler, the first golfer to start 0-4-0 through the first four sessions of a Ryder Cup in modern history. No other No. 1-ranked player has ever gone winless through foursomes and fourballs at a Ryder Cup, and Scheffler is now winless across the last two playings of the biennial event dating back to 2023 in Rome. The de facto on-course leader of the U.S. performing so poorly is a huge tip on a massive iceberg of failure.

Tommy Fleetwood is playing a completely opposite role for the Europeans, starting 4-0-0 at Bethpage Black and nearly scoring as many points himself (4) as the Americans have together (4.5). The reigning Tour Championship winner continues to play the best golf of his career, rounding into form as the type of golfer many believed he had the pedigree to eventually become.

Battling obnoxious crowds Saturday to nevertheless dominate the Americans was Rory McIlroy, himself 3-0-1 after four sessions. Despite being the subject of insults beyond the pale even while he was setting up to swing throughout the day, the reigning Masters champion and career grand slam winner played inspired golf to the point he even turned around and audibly cursed at U.S. fans for going well over the line with their jeering. (And then he stuck his approach shot just feet from the cup.)

McIlroy and pal Shane Lowry were particularly fiery in Saturday foursomes, ultimately winning 2UP in a competitive match against Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.

Not only has Europe won all four team sessions, it has done so without giving up more than 1.5 points to the U.S. in any of the competitions. On Saturday alone, Europe led for 76 combined holes across eight matches compared to just six for the United States -- an even more dominant showing than Day 1 when Europe's edge was a paltry 61-40 by comparison.

Bradley insisted the U.S. team just needed to stick to its plan despite the disastrous start Friday, so he sent out three of the same four pairings in foursomes Saturday. Spoiler alert: The same plan yielded the same results. Europe once again took the foursomes session 3-1, extending its lead to 5 points entering the afternoon with all three repeat American airings losing.

The U.S. duo to score a point Saturday morning the new pairing of Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young, who won the opening match 4 & 2 over Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg. Young's performance this week has been one of the few bright spots for the Americans, as he registered two full points in his first Ryder Cup matches and appears to be a potential stalwart for the U.S. side in the future.

Everything after that match went the way of the Europeans. Luke Donald's most trusted foursomes delivered three more points, quieting quieted a Bethpage crowd desperately hoping for a reason to get boisterous for the Americans. They had to watch as duos of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton plus McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood once again gutted the U.S. side. Both pairings won their matches 3 & 2, improving to 4-0-0 in the foursomes format going back to 2023 in Rome.

In the final match, it was more pain for Scheffler as he and Russell Henley went back out and battled all the way to the 18th only to fall against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland on the last hole. Scheffler's day only got worse from there.

Bradley finally shook up his pairings up for the afternoon, but the end result was more of the same as the Americans got steamrolled again, losing 3-1 in the four-ball session.

To the Americans' credit, the afternoon session was most competitive of the week in terms of close contests; however, the U.S. only led for three holes in those four matches with Europe maintaining advantages across 37 holes.

The Americans sent three matches to the 18th hole and kept their deficits thin; however, the Europeans continued to deliver huge shots and drain long puts when the hosts could not.

Bradley's big move was putting Scheffler and DeChambeau out together as the pairing went went 1-0-1 four years ago. The hope was to produce a full point from the captain's two top stars. Instead, they ran into the buzzsaw of Fleetwood and Justin Rose, becoming the only pair not to reach the 18th hole in a 3 & 2 loss that got testy at the end.

Rose and Fleetwood were outrageously dialed all day, making birdie or better on 11 of 16 holes, which gave the Americans no room to make any mistakes. The match reached a boiling point on the 15th hole when Rose told DeChambeau's caddie to step back while his player got ready to putt. After both golfers made birdie, the two teams got into a heated argument walking to the 16th tee.

Ultimately, cooler heads prevailed and Rose ultimately shrugged off the whole exchange, but the Americans seemed to still be steaming (particularly DeChambeau) as the team's top stars fell to a combined 1-7-0.

Behind them, McIlroy and Lowry battled Thomas and Young in a match that wasn't as heated between the groups but featured a ton of emotion between the players and the crowd. The fans at Bethpage were all over McIlroy and Lowry with reports of fans crossing the line with indecent comments -- and poorly timed -- comments. It was to the point that Thomas and Young were actively trying to quiet the crowd at numerous points while the Europeans were playing.

McIlroy let out all that emotion after his birdie on the 14th to go back 1UP, which proved to be the decisive hole in the match.

Lowry delivered a similar effort on the par-3 17th with a birdie putt to stay 1UP going to the last. The U.S. ultimately conceded after failing to make a birdie, handing McIlroy and Lowry their first full point as a Ryder Cup pairing. Afterwards, an exhausted McIlroy had an emotional embrace with Lowry but wouldn't offer up much about whether the fans crossed the line, mostly noting how proud he was of how they played in that arena.

"Look, when you play an away Ryder Cup, it's really, really challenging," McIlroy said. "You know, it's not for me to say. People can be their own judge of whether they took it too far or not. I'm just proud of us for being able to win with what we had to go through."

Behind that match, J.J. Spaun provided the lone positive for the Americans as he made consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to flip his pairing with Xander Schauffele to a U.S. win, 2UP over Sepp Straka and Rahm. It was Rahm's first loss of the week (and since 2021), as he was unable to join Fleetwood in the 4-0-0 club. Still, it was a great example of what the Europeans have demanded from the United States all week as it took a spectacular finish from Spaun to beat them.

In the final match, Hatton and Fitzpatrick put a fitting end on the day by giving the U.S. duo of Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns false hope by going to the 18th tied before slamming the door with two incredible approaches to gimme range. The Americans could not answer, the result being another 3-1 session.

What was billed as one of the most competitive Ryder Cups fans may ever see has turned into a historic blowout. Even one of the best Sunday singles performances in Ryder Cup history won't be enough for the Americans, and anything less than that could yield one of the all-time worst showings from a home team in Ryder Cup history.

The benchmark at this point is the 2004 victory by Europe at Oakland Hills as the visitors won 18.5 to 9.5. Bradley will be hoping not to dethrone Hal Sutton as the least successful U.S. captain this century, but at this point, he's yet to figure out the right buttons to push.

Bradley will face plenty of deserved criticism. There have been head-scratching pairings -- Collin Morikawa and Harris English were a disaster on Friday yet somehow got sent back out on Saturday -- and a pathetic course setup that completely neutered the typically stern test of Bethpage Black into a birdiefest akin to TPC Deere Run.

Despite any of Bradley's mistakes, though, the Ryder Cup ultimately comes down to how players perform on the course. The Americans have played terribly. The stars have fallen flat, and the experienced supporting cast took a massive step back throughout the 2025 season leading into the event.

That's a bad combination no matter what, but it becomes a true disaster when the opposite is happening on the European side. Their top three stars are 10-1-1, and veterans like Rose and Hatton are providing needed lifts when called upon.

There aren't any positives options for the U.S. if Europe is going to play this way, and if the visitors can stay focused for one more day, they will pay off McIlroy's proclamation in Rome that they would go on to win at Bethpage in historic fashion.

Hatton and Fitzpatrick beat Burns and Cantlay after throwing identical darts at the 18th

The U.S. dream of a miraculous 2-2 split in the afternoon died when Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton produced two identical, near-perfect shots on the 18th. Fitzpatrick went first and stuffed one to two feet from the fairway bunker, and then Hatton did the same from the fairway, with his ball spinning back and giving Fitzpatrick's a little kiss.

Cantlay spun his wedge too hard and ended up against the rough, while Burns' ball out of the first cut didn't have any spin and stayed up on top of the hill. They conceded the match after missing their attempts, and Europe now holds an 11.5-4.5 lead going into singles, which is the biggest in Ryder Cup history.

Spaun and Schauffele beat Rahm and Straka to put a U.S. point on the board 2UP

There will not be an afternoon shutout at Bethpage, as J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele put up an American point in the third match of the four-ball session. They finally took down Jon Rahm, handing him his first loss in two Ryder Cups, as he and Straka both missed the green on the 18th, with Spaun stuffing one close for a birdie and a much-needed point, for morale as much as anything.

The Americans are going to need something historic on Sunday to win, but at this point the first order of business is avoiding making history the wrong way with the biggest blowout loss at home. Spaun's birdie-birdie close allows them to take one step closer to the Europeans, making it 10.5-4.5 Europe with one match still to finish.

Spaun birdies No. 17 to tie the match going to the 18th

The last two matches are now both tied. J.J. Spaun threw a dart at the par-3 17th and converted the birdie to open the door for the United States to finally put a full point on the board in the afternoon.

In the match behind, Tyrrell Hatton made a long birdie and forced an answer from Patrick Cantlay, who rolled in his own lengthy birdie to prevent another blue flag from going up on the leaderboard. There's a chance for the U.S. to still get a split in the afternoon session, but they'll need a furious finish to do so.

Lowry-McIlroy beat Thomas-Young 2UP to give Europe 10.5 points

Despite some reported moments where the crowd crossed the line with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry on Saturday afternoon, they won their four-ball match with Justin Thomas and Cameron Young on the 18th hole to put another full point on the board for the Europeans. That gives Europe 10.5 points and guarantees a 5-point lead going into Sunday's singles, with the final two matches still in the balance.

McIlroy and Lowry put on quite the display to hold off a game effort from Thomas and Young. The match was tied at the turn, but the duo from Northern Ireland and Ireland found some key birdies when they needed them, including two huge 2s on the par-3 14th to go back 1UP and again on the 17th to stay there and guarantee a half-point.

At the end, you could see the emotion pour out of McIlroy as he embraced his friend on the 18th green after a emotionally draining day where he put two more points on the board for Europe.

"Yeah, hugely satisfying," McIlroy said after. "It's Shane and I's first full point as a partnership. Look, another blue point on the board and I'm so proud of this guy. He was there for me all day. I'm drained, to say the least, and he dug in big time when he had to. I chipped in when I could here and there, but the credit goes to this guy."

Fleetwood and Rose close out DeChambeau and Scheffler, 3 & 2

The Americans desperately needed a point from their top two players in the afternoon, but did not get it as Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler lost 3 & 2 to Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose on Saturday afternoon.

It wasn't that the Americans played poorly, they just ran into an absolute buzzsaw in Fleetwood and Rose, who made 11 birdies or better in 16 holes. That's tough to deal with, even for two of the top players in the world, and by the end it seemed nerves were frayed from the American duo as they got into a heated back-and-forth starting on the 15th green and extending to the 16th tee.

Fleetwood improved to 4-0-0 with the win, while Rose will go 2-0-0 into Sunday singles. On the flip side, DeChambeau fell to 1-3-0 and Scheffler a shocking 0-4-0 in a disastrous Ryder Cup for the two top American stars.

Burns chips in on the 14th to tie the match with Hatton and Fitzpatrick

The Americans still have a chance to salvage the session, but they need to start winning holes in a hurry. Sam Burns did his part on the 14th with a chip-in for birdie, which put heat on Hatton who missed his birdie putt from relatively close range.

That tied the match and set up a fascinating close, with two other matches still hanging in the balance with slim 1UP leads for Europe. The U.S. will need to get within 10-6 to feel like they've got a real shot in Sunday singles, and that would require two wins and a tie from the three matches seemingly still in the balance.

We've got a kerfuffle in the Scheffler-DeChambeau and Fleetwood-Rose match!

Justin Rose told Bryson's caddie to back off as he surveyed his birdie putt on the 15th.

Then Rose poured his birdie putt in.

DeChambeau then made his putt and there was a lot of heated discussion between both sides on the walk to the 16th. Scheffler's caddie, Ted Scott, got in Europe assistant captain Francesco Molinari's face and let him have it about being disrespectful with...whatever it was he said.

Fleetwood's caddie had a long conversation on the tee with Bryson and his caddie and things are extremely heated.

All the while, Europe is now dormie in that match at 3UP with 3 to play, and is trying to close it out on the 16th needing just a tie on that hole to end the match.

The Fleetwood-Rose buzzsaw is fully activated

It's hard to win a match when the opposing team goes 11 under in the first 14 holes, which is what Rose and Fleetwood have done to Bryson and Scottie this afternoon. The latest saw Rose roll in a long birdie with Fleetwood stuffed in tight, with DeChambeau missing a short birdie putt after to fall 3DN with four to play.

Europe now leads in all four matches

A wild few minutes for Europe has blue up in every match on the course right now. First, Tommy Fleetwood poured in a long birdie putt on the 13th to negate a Scottie Scheffler wedge close to maintain a 2UP lead there.

Then, Rory McIlroy rolled in a short birdie on the par-3 14th that Justin Thomas followed with the latest nasty lip out to give McIlroy and Lowry the lead again in the most contentious match of the afternoon.

The Americans came into the afternoon desperate for a sweep, but at this moment, it's Europe poised to run the U.S. off the course if things don't change dramatically over the next hour.

Rose and Fleetwood go back to 2UP after stuffing shots on the 12th

Right after DeChambeau pulled the Americans within one, the European duo of Fleetwood and Rose offered quiet he response on the 12th. Fleetwood threw a dart to 6 feet on the long par 4 and Rose tossed one inside that to set up a pair of short birdie looks. Only DeChambeau could hit the green for the U.S., and his putt slid by on the low side, allowing Fleetwood to roll in his birdie to double their advantage again.

J.J. Spaun and Bryson DeChambeau pull the U.S. within 1 in two matches

Bryson DeChambeau finally created the roar he's been trying to all day with a birdie on the 11th to trim the Fleetwood and Rose lead to one.

Meanwhile in the group behind, J.J. Spaun rolled in a 40-footer on the 10th to win the hole and trim the Rahm-Straka lead to one as well. There's still plenty of work to do for the Americans, as they trail in three matches and are tied in the other, but those deficits are now all just one hole, which offers a shimmer of hope that they could get it done and put up 3 or more points this afternoon.

Wild swing on the 11th as Fleetwood hits it to inside a foot, Scheffler nearly slam dunks it but bounds to the rough

In a metaphor for the way things have gone so far for both teams, Tommy Fleetwood hit his approach on No. 11 to inside a foot (catching the flag and dropping straight down) for a gimme birdie while 1UP on Scheffler and DeChambeau.

Scheffler, next to play, fired one that hit the bottom of the flagstick, nearly going in for an eagle, but instead bounced hard backwards into the rough. Scheffler lipped out his chip and DeChambeau couldn't make a long putt for birdie, and the Europeans moved 2UP in a swing the Americans could ill-afford in a match they desperately needed to win this afternoon.

Sepp Straka rolls in another birdie to go 1UP on Spaun-Schauffele

Rahm and Straka have been all square with Spaun and Schauffele for much of this match, but they've moved back in front on the 7th hole thanks to a birdie from Straka after a miss from Xander.

That replaced the blue flag that just came down in the lead match, as Europe maintains the advantage in two matches and are tied in the other two, refusing to let the Americans make the kind of run they need.

Justin Rose walks in a long birdie putt on No. 8 to go back in front of DeChambeau-Scheffler

The best match of the afternoon has been Rose-Fleetwood vs. DeChambeau-Scheffler. They have traded blows all front nine and Justin Rose has led the latest charge for Europe to go 1UP on the top American duo. Rose is flagging every iron shot it seems and has the putter warmed up, rolling in a long birdie on the 8th that he started walking in six feet from the cup.

Europe now leads 1UP in two matches and is tied in the other two, as the U.S. is not producing the kind of charge they needed on the front nine this afternoon.

Injury update: Viktor Hovland (neck)

Viktor Hovland has revealed Saturday afternoon that the neck injury forcing him out of the four-ball session -- after originally being in the lineup alongside Matt Fitzpatrick -- is the same one that nagged him this summer. The Norwegian pulled out of the Travelers Championship in late June due to the ailment and was bothered by it during his morning victory alongside Robert MacIntyre over Americans Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley.

"I've had some issues with a neck injury on and off for the last two months," Hovland said. "I took some painkillers on the 7th hole and then got some treatment from Matt Roberts, the physio, on the 10th tee box. It stayed the same for the remainder of the match after that. But I came in and rested up and got some more treatment, and when I went back out onto the range, I tried hitting some shots trying to build up to the driver. I hit three or four hard ones and it just got worse.

"I didn't want to risk it for the match in case it got worse and I couldn't continue, especially in four-balls when you are hitting every shot. I had to pull out of the Travelers Championship earlier this year because of the same issue. I played two holes and then I had to pull out, so I didn't want to do that. I've been struggling with it a little bit since then. Not as bad, but similar over the last few months. I'm going to get some treatment this afternoon and tonight and hopefully I will be OK for the singles tomorrow."

If Hovland is not able to go Sunday, the envelope rule would be put into effect where one U.S. player -- previously designated by captain Keegan Bradley -- will not play and the match will be deemed a tie.

Cameron Young buries a long birdie to trim the deficit

Young birdies the difficult 7th hole with a lengthy putt to send the crowd into a frenzy in what is, without a doubt, the most heated match on the golf course. Rory McIlroy vs. the crowd continues to get heated

The only European lead is Lowry and McIlroy, who are 2UP in the lead match over Thomas and Young -- with the crowd getting really feisty with Rory. McIlroy had to step off his putt on the 6th twice due to people yelling as he was getting ready to play, and that'll be something to monitor as the day progresses.

Yesterday, he flipped off the crowd in the afternoon. This morning he told a fan to "shut the f--- up" before stuffing the match-winning shot on the 16th, and most recently had his step off situation. From those walking with that group, even with those responses it seems McIlroy has handled himself well given how much he's getting from the crowd. That will undoubtedly continue this afternoon, and we'll see if he and Lowry can continue to silence them with their play.

Xander Schauffele hits a long eagle putt on No. 4 to tie that match

It's now 1-1-2 on the leaderboard in the afternoon four-ball session thanks to a little rally from the Americans in the middle of the front nine. After DeChambeau and Scheffler put the first red banner on the leaderboard, Xander Schauffele poured in a long eagle putt on No. 4 to tie the match with Rahm and Straka.

The U.S. needs a big charge today, and seeing the putters finally warm up would be a welcome sight for the Americans.

Bryson DeChambeau puts a red flag on the leaderboard as they try to rally

Back-to-back holes won by DeChambeau have the U.S.'s top pairing 1UP on Fleetwood and Rose after five holes. Both Scottie and Bryson stuffed approaches on the 5th, with Bryson putting first and pouring his in. The Americans need a big rally in the afternoon and sent that duo out to help lead the charge, and after a sluggish start, they are starting to oblige.

Bryson DeChambeau nearly holes out an albatross to get the U.S. back level

It takes something truly special for the Americans to win holes this week, and Bryson DeChambeau came up with just that on the par-5 4th as he nearly holed out with his second from the fairway for an albatross. Instead it was a gimme eagle to win the hole, as Tommy Fleetwood couldn't hole a mid-range eagle putt and that match is back level.

Shane Lowry eagles the 4th and Europe is now up in the first three matches

The U.S. needed to get hot in the afternoon and that has not happened so far. Europe now leads in the opening two matches and the Americans have missed a few chances to put red banners on the leaderboard elsewhere. The latest blue to pop up comes courtesy of Shane Lowry, who buried an eagle putt on the 4th and let the crowd know about it.

He and McIlroy now lead Thomas and Young 1 UP, along with Fleetwood-Rose and Rahm-Straka after a Sepp birdie on the second. We're going to find out how much fight the American side has left in them after falling down early (again) in three matches, because we are on the verge of an all-time road blowout if they don't wake up.

Tyrrell Hatton replaces Viktor Hovland in final European pairing due to neck issue

The Europeans had to make a late change to their anchor match pairing, sending Tyrrell Hatton out to the first tee with Matt Fitzpatrick in place of Viktor Hovland to face Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay. Hovland is apparently dealing with a sore neck and will sit out the afternoon to try and get right for Sunday's singles. The luxury of this European team is they can replace him with a guy who has gone 2-0-0 so far this week alongside Jon Rahm in foursomes play, but it is the first thing that's gone according to plan for Luke Donald's European side.

U.S. will try to make late Ryder Cup scoring history

If the United States is looking for some inspiration for a comeback, there have been two teams that have scored at least 11 of the final 16 points since it became U.S. vs. Europe in 1979.

The Americans did it in 1981 (4 points in four-ball, 8 points in singles), and Europe did it in 2006 (2.5 points in foursomes, 8.5 points in singles). However, both of those were tighter matches going into the afternoon session with the dominant side leading before ultimately winning in 18.5-9.5 blowouts. This year, the U.S. needs that kind of rally to win the cup by one point, which is a daunting task given the way the Europeans are playing right now.

Still, it's not impossible, but the U.S. absolutely has to have a winning session this afternoon to set up the possibility for a rally in Sunday singles.

Early matches feature dueling birdies on No. 1

The first two matches this afternoon have seen the opening hole tied with birdies, as the front left pin position and short hole have allowed players to take aim with wedges. That hole has been picked apart by these teams all week and that's not changed. This afternoon, everyone is finding the fairway, but even those that end up in the rough haven't had any issues given the decision by the U.S. to cut down what is usually Bethpage's defense.

Scottie Scheffler whiffs a wedge from the fairway and Europe wins the full point

Scottie Scheffler's disastrous Ryder Cup continues with the worst wedge he's hit all year in the biggest moment of the Ryder Cup on Saturday. With the U.S. desperately needing a birdie to have a chance at a half-point to stay within four points of the Europeans, Scheffler whiffed a wedge from the fairway (hosel adjacent contact) and came up well short and right in the long rough in between fingers of the greenside bunker. Viktor Hovland then smartly played to the center of the green from the right rough, leaving two putts to win the match, even after a nice chip from Russell Henley.

Robert MacIntyre cozied the birdie putt up close and the Europeans walked off with a full point, going up 8.5-3.5 to just about slam the door shut on the Americans barring a sweep of the four-ball session in the afternoon. For Scheffler, he falls to 0-3-0 in this year's Ryder Cup and hasn't won a full point in a match since 2021.

Hovland hits a huge par putt on 17 to guarantee a half-point for Europe

Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley will not be able to win the anchor match as Europe escaped with a tie on the 17th hole despite a terrible tee shot from Viktor Hovland and a bad putt by Robert MacIntyre. Scheffler's tee shot was good, but Henley missed the birdie putt low, opening the door for Hovland to create a European roar by pouring in a long par putt to stay 1 UP going to the 18th.

At worst, Europe will lead 8-4 after this match ends and they'll be the first team in the U.S. vs. Europe era to win the first three sessions at an away Ryder Cup.

Rahm and Hatton close out Cantlay and Schauffele, 3&2

The Europeans have guaranteed a split in Saturday foursomes after getting two full points from their two best pairings. After McIlroy and Fleetwood won 3&2 earlier, Rahm and Hatton followed suit to take out the U.S. side's best foursomes pairing in Schauffele and Cantlay in the same score to put Europe up 7.5-3.5 with one match still on the course.

Every time the Americans got close to Europe's dominant duo, Rahm and Hatton provided a huge answer. Ultimately, they finished things off with Rahm stuffing an approach on 16 and Hatton calmly rolling in the birdie putt to win the match. They are now undefeated in foursomes together over the past two Ryder Cups (like Fleetwood and McIlroy) and Europe is on the precipice of a massive lead.

Scheffler-Henley tie the match on the 13th; Hovland-MacIntyre answer on the 14th to go back in front

The world No. 1 is starting to wake up at Bethpage, and his partner is showing up as well and now Henley and Scheffler are tied with Hovland and MacIntyre as they hit the middle of the back nine. They've finally started to hit putts (helped by hitting closer approaches), and pulled even with hole wins on the 11th and 13th holes to create some late tension on Saturday morning at the Ryder Cup.

However, as soon as it seemed they'd seized control of the match, MacIntyre and Hovland wrestled it back on the par-3 14th. MacIntyre stiffed his tee shot after Henley opened the door by barely getting on the front edge of the green. Scheffler slid a long birdie putt by on the low side, and Hovland punished the American let-off with a 6-footer dead in the center to go back 1 UP.

English and Morikawa battle with Fleetwood and McIlroy, but fall 3&2

After falling 4 DN thru 8, it looked like we were headed for another blowout win from Fleetwood and McIlroy. However, English and Morikawa battled on the back nine, tying the first four holes and then winning the 14th and 15th holes to trim the deficit to two against Europe's dominant duo.

However, just as the crowd was starting to get back into it, McIlroy squashed all hopes by throwing a dart from the rough on No. 16. Morikawa couldn't make a good look at birdie, as his putting woes continue, and Fleetwood cleaned up the short birdie putt to end that match 3&2.
