Sergio Garcia, other golfers pledge money to Houston for every birdie made
This is a cool move by one of the best in the world and some of his peers
It often feels like the United States (and world) is largely divided. And then tragedy strikes, and you're reminded that the unification of humans is one of the greatest parts about our planet and these silly sports played for entertainment.
Hurricane Harvey has crushed Houston and done millions in damage to the homes and lives of those who live there. So golfers are stepping up this week to help relieve some of the pain with some of their own cash. John Peterson got things started as he'll play in the Web.com Tour playoffs in Columbus. J.T. Poston agreed to do the same.
Will be donating $50 a birdie and $100 an eagle to hurricane Harvey victims in my home state. I wish I could go down there and help.

I'll do the same. How can I donate?

Then Masters champ Sergio Garcia upped the ante a little bit.
My wife @TheAngelaAkins & I are donating $2k for every birdie & $5k for every eagle I make during the #FedExCup to help #Texas. #TexasFlood

That's a great look from pro golfers and one that is not all that unusual. When the Greenbrier was canceled because of flooding last year, dozens of golfers gave, highlighted by Bubba Watson's $250,000. These actions might not be as memorable as winning tournaments or hitting great shots, but they're certainly more long-lasting and likely even more meaningful to those affected.
