PGA Championships are probably the least consistent when it comes to style of the four majors, but that doesn't mean they don't fit into a category at all. Big, brawling, sprawling tracks usually play host to these majors. Tracks you can beat into submission like Whistling Straits last year and Valhalla the year before that.

The numbers bear it out, too.

"I always thought that the PGA Championship and my record through the PGA Championship is the one that I excel in because of the way the golf course is set up and the type of golf courses that they go to," said Rory McIlroy earlier this year. "I never thought that the U.S. Open would be the first one ... the week that I won at Congressional, it wasn't really like a U.S. Open. It was more like a PGA Championship type."

It's no surprise that McIlroy plays well on these courses. But just how well has he played in the last five PGA Championships compared to some of his peers? Let's take a look.

Players who have made the most cuts

  • Bill Haas: 5
  • Brendon de Jonge: 5
  • Francesco Molinari: 5
  • Jim Furyk: 5
  • Phil Mickelson: 5
  • Rory McIlroy: 5
  • Steve Stricker: 5

What a strange list of players. Brendon de Jonge?! What is going on?

Players with the best average finish when making the cut (min. three cuts made)

  • Jason Day: 8.0
  • Adam Scott: 9.5
  • Henrik Stenson: 10.3
  • Steve Stricker: 13.6
  • Justin Rose: 16.0
  • Matt Kuchar: 16.0
  • David Toms: 17.7
  • Rory McIlroy: 18.2

David Toms ahead of McIlroy (who has won twice) is something special. Of course, we are not counting the other two times when Toms has missed the cut, but still.

Players with the most top 10s

  • Rory McIlroy: 3
  • Adam Scott: 2
  • David Toms: 2
  • Dustin Johnson: 2
  • Henrik Stenson: 2
  • Jason Day: 2
  • Jason Dufner: 2
  • Jim Furyk: 2
  • Justin Rose: 2
  • Keegan Bradley: 2
  • Steve Stricker: 2

McIlroy with three and then everybody else. I'm starting to get the feeling he likes PGA Championships!

Best scoring average (min. 10 rounds played)

  • Henrik Stenson: 68.8
  • Rory McIlroy: 69.5
  • Jason Day: 69.8
  • Steve Stricker: 69.95
  • Marc Warren: 70.0

Marc Warren, huh? What a world we live in.

Most money earned

  • Rory McIlroy: $3.6 million
  • Jason Dufner: $2.4 million
  • Jason Day: $2.1 million
  • Keegan Bradley: $1.9 million
  • Jim Furyk: $1.3 million
  • Phil Mickelson: $1.3 million

It's not very surprising to see each of the last five winners (remember, McIlroy won twice) on this list. McIlroy, Dufner and Day have all earned more in the last five years at this single tournament than Arnold Palmer earned over the course of his entire career.
