2020 MLB Draft order: Tigers hold No. 1 pick; Astros stripped of first-round selection
The 2020 MLB Draft will begin on Wednesday, June 10
Major League Baseball will conduct its 2020 amateur draft this week, with the five-round affair beginning on Wednesday, June 10 and concluding the next evening, on Thursday, June 11. Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the draft will be held virtually, rather than in-person and alongside the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Detroit Tigers hold the No. 1 pick for the second time in three years, and for just the third time in franchise history. They're widely expected to use that selection on Arizona State University first baseman Spencer Torkelson, who has a chance to become a middle-of-the-order fixture sooner rather than later.
According to our top 50 rankings, the next four players off the board should be some combination of Vanderbilt star Austin Martin (No. 1), Texas A&M southpaw Asa Lacy (No. 3), Georgia right-hander Emerson Hancock (No. 4), and Minnesota right-hander Max Meyer (No. 5). After that? Well, you might not know who picks when or where. We aim to be educational, so below you'll find the complete order for both, the first round. Do note that the Houston Astros had their first-round pick stripped by MLB as part of the punishment for improperly using technology to steal signs.
