Angels' Josh Hamilton set for shoulder surgery, out 6-8 weeks
Josh Hamilton is set for surgery Wednesday to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder, putting his availability for the start of the regular season in doubt.
Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will undergo surgery to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder, the team announced Tuesday.
Hamilton will need six-to-eight weeks to recover from the procedure, which may delay the beginning of his season to allow him the proper time to recover and prepare. His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
Hamilton is dealing with arthritis in the shoulder, and the surgery will shave down the bone to "try and create some relief," general manager Dipoto said, per the Los Angeles Times.
Hamilton is set to resume baseball activity in a minimum of three weeks. The team indicated that the symptoms in Hamilton's shoulder, which limited him to four games in September, resurfaced over the past week.
"The original plan (for Hamilton) was to let him rest and let time heal it and that didn’t work," Dipoto said, per the Orange County Register.
Hamilton, the 2010 American League MVP, hit .263/.331/.414 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 338 at-bats in 2014.
