Mets starting pitcher Shaun Marcum finally broke through Wednesday night with his first win of the season at the Chicago White Sox. It also was his best start of the season, tossing eight scoreless innings.

Marcum said he was successful Wednesday because he scrapped plans to throw his changeup and instead unveiled a split-fingered fastball, according to the New York Post.

"I’ve been toying with [the splitter] for a couple of years, but today the changeup was awful down in the bullpen," Marcum said.
