Padres game rained out in San Diego for only the third time in Petco Park history

For only the third time since Petco Park opened in 2004, an MLB game has been rained out in San Diego.
Sunday afternoon the Padres announced their series finale with the Dodgers has been rained out. Officially, the game was postponed due to "unstable, inclement weather including prolonged rain showers and possible thunder and lightning throughout the afternoon."

It's not often the Petco Park tarp gets a workout. This is only the third rainout in ballpark history. The first was April 4, 2006. The second was relatively recent. It happened on July 19, 2015. The Padres went 820 home games without a rainout between those two dates.
The Padres and Dodgers will make up Sunday's game as part of a doubleheader on Sept. 2.
