The Pirates have called up outfielder Jose Tabata from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned pitcher Wilfredo Boscan back to Triple-A, the team announced on Tuesday.

"We were aggressive with Tabby in what we believed he needed to do to get back to the big leagues this season. He's working hard to make that adjustment," general manager Neal Huntington said last week per MLB.com. "He has played very well for them, and as important, he's played hard. He's running well again, and he's showing up for every pitch and getting after it.

"We've been very open with Jose that while we hope his return to the big leagues is with us, he's a guy that may need to get somebody else's attention and have somebody come get him back to the big leagues. If that happens, we'll be happy for him, but if it happens here, that's great for us as well."

In addition, Justin Sellers was transferred to the 60-day DL. Tabata is hitting .352 with four RBI in 28 games for Indianapolis. Boscan did not appear in a game for Pittsburgh after being called up three days ago.
