Rays first baseman James Loney is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series-finale against the Phillies. Loney had started each of the 15 games since returning from the disabled list, batting .204 with a homer and five RBI in that stretch.
Loney is just 6 for 32 against left-handers this season, so with the Rays set to square off against a southpaw on Wednesday, this is more than likely just a planned day off for the first baseman.
Jake Elmore will handle first base and bat seventh on Wednesday.
