Long-time big league infielder Julio Lugo plans to retire following the Caribbean Series this week, according to Alden Gonzalez of He's suiting up for Dominican Republic club Leones del Escogido.

“It might be [the end], unless something comes that changes my mind,” Lugo said. “But I think this is going to be it for me ... I played good and had a good career and I just think it’s the right time now.”

Lugo, 37, last played in the big leagues with the Braves in 2011, when he hit just .136/.208/.136 in 48 plate appearances. He'll leave the game as a .269/.333/.384 hitter across a 12-year career that was spent with the Astros, Devil Rays, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cardinals, Orioles and Braves. A minor league deal with the Indians fell apart before last season.
