Rangers manager Ron Washington has no plans to bench infielder/designated hitter Michael Young , according to ESPNDallas.com's Richard Durrett.
When the Rangers promoted highly-touted prospect Mike Olt at the beginning of August, there was speculation that Young's starting role could be in jeopardy, but Washington reiterated that Young's role as a regular is secure. Olt has three hits, three walks and four RBI in his first 13 plate appearances.
Young has hit just .269/.300/.343 in 476 plate appearances this season. He has not posted an OPS under .740 since 2002, and his current .643 mark would be the lowest OPS in his career.
Young could be in danger of losing playing time in September when rosters expand if the Rangers decide to call up top prospect Jurickson Profar , who has hit .285/.363/.470 as a 19-year-old with Double-A Frisco this year.
