According to the New York Post, the Wilpon family is going to begin fielding bids for the New York Mets starting in July in the hopes of having a buyer for the team in place by Oct. 1. The Wilpons hope to get a deal done before the end of 2020 in order to get Major League Baseball approval before the calendar shifts to 2021.

During Thursday's installment of "Nothing Personal with David Samson," David Samson weighed in on the Mets timeline and believes that the Wilpons may not end up selling the team if no one gets close to the $2.6 billion offer that they covet.

"Maybe there's only two groups bidding on the Mets and maybe none of them want to get to the $2.6 billion number," Samson said. "Maybe the Mets are going to have to crawl back to Steve Cohen or say that they don't want to sell because in the middle of a pandemic, the value is at a low spot."

The New York Post is also reporting that businessmen Josh Harris and David Blitzer are interested in purchasing the Mets and offering $1.4 billion. Harris owns both the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers while Blitzer serves as a minority owner of both franchises. Harris and Blitzer also are shareholders of Crystal Palace FC in the Premier League. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have also expressed interest in buying the team.

Samson believes that Steve Cohen may end up being the buyer for the Mets when it's all said and done. If the offers are underwhelming, that fact could prove to be true.
