Savannah's newest baseball team is the Savannah Bananas
The newest baseball team in the Coastal Plains League, a collegiate summer league, will be known as the Savannah Bananas.
The Coastal Plains League is welcoming a new team to the circuit this year, and it'll attract fans of baseball and fruit alike. Take a gander at the logo of the new club, the Savannah Bananas:

Savannah Bananas really does roll off your tongue quite nicely.
The Bananas nickname was chosen through a contest run by the Savannah Morning News. Among the other finalists were the Anchors, Ports, Seagulls, and Party Animals.
“I just thought Savannah Bananas sounded catchy. I’m floored. It’s just unreal," said Lynn Moses to Nathan Deen of the Savannah Morning News. Moses submitted the Bananas nickname into the contest, which received over 1,000 entries. She also signed off on the logo.
“We think Savannah deserves something special,” said team owner Jesse Cole to Deen. “We’re going to do a lot with bananas.”
The Bananas will play in Grayson Stadium, former home of the Savannah Sand Gnats. The Sand Gnats were a Single A affiliate of the Mets. They relocated and became the Columbia Fireflies this year.
The Coastal Plains League is an invite-only collegiate summer league with 16 teams throughout Georgia, Virginia, and the Carolinas. Some of the very best college players in the country play there each year.
