WATCH: Miguel Cabrera gives a thumbs up to the pitcher who struck him out
When you make a great pitch to strike out one of the best hitters in history, you get a thumbs up
The Tigers are red hot right now following their sluggish start to the season. They beat the Phillies on Tuesday night (DET 3, PHI 1) for their 8th win in their last night games. Detroit is now 23-22 on the season and three games back in the AL Central.
In the third inning of Tuesday's game, Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson uncorked a nasty changeup to strike out Miguel Cabrera for the final out of the inning. The pitch was so good Cabrera gave Hellickson a thumbs up:
I've seen Miggy smile and give pitchers a nod to acknowledge a particularly nasty pitch, but a thumbs up? That's big time. Hellickson really impressed Cabrera with that two-strike changeup.
That strikeout, by the way, was Cabrera's first strikeout in 42 plate appearances. He's hitting .325/.398/.586 (170 OPS+) on the season with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. When it's all said and done, Cabrera's going to be on the very short list of the best right-handed hitters in history.
