Sunday afternoon in Petco Park, the Phillies did something that had never before been done in baseball history: they turned a triple play at Petco Park.
With runners on first and second, Padres outfielder Jabari Blash hit a ground ball to Maikel Franco at third base, which started the around the horn 5-4-3 triple play. Franco to Cesar Hernandez to Tommy Joseph.
Here's the video:
Like I said, that is the first triple play in Petco Park history. The Padres opened their gorgeous current home ballpark back in 2004.
The triple play is the first turned by the Phillies since Eric Bruntlett turned an unassisted triple play in August 2009. The Padres last hit into a triple play back in 2014.
