White Sox to elevate Kenny Williams to team president, Rick Hahn to GM

This offseason, the White Sox will make significant changes at the top, as longtime GM Kenny Williams will be promoted to president and longtime assistant Rick Hahn will become the new general manager.

CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman confirms the original report of USA Today's Bob Nightengale: the White Sox this offseason will promote current GM Kenny Williams to the role of team president and replace him with current assistant GM Rick Hahn. 

Williams has served as the White Sox's general manager since October of 2000. Under his guidance, Chicago has made two playoff appearances (they're headed for a third) and of course won the World Series in 2005. They've also endured just three losing seasons in Williams' 12 years on the job. 

Hahn, who has a law degree from Harvard, has been a candidate for numerous high-level vacancies around the league, and he's long been regarded as the Sox's GM-in-waiting.  

It bears noting that this arrangement -- longtime GM in the president's chair and longtime lieutenant as GM -- is remarkably similar to what Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer have going on the North Side.
