Scores from World Baseball Classic in Asia on Tuesday: Netherlands 4, Australia, 1; China 5, Brazil 2; and Korea 3, Chinese Taipei 2. The Netherlands and Chinese Taipei (both 2-1) advanced to the second round while defending runner-up Korea (2-1) was eliminated because they were on the short end of the tiebreaker stick.

China (1-2) was eliminated from the tournament, but its win over Brazil earned it an automatic bid into the 2017 WBC. Ray Chang, a 29-year-old catcher who played in Triple-A for the Twins last season, drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.

"No doubt that was the biggest hit of my life," Chang said to Baseball America. "I've played seven, eight years of professional baseball, and I've had some clutch hits in my career, but nothing like this. This is not just for a Single-A, Double-A team; this is for an entire country. We knew how big this game was, and you could see the emotions on the guys' faces after the win how much it meant to them. To be able to play a part in that in the end, it's just surreal. I can't even believe it. It's an awesome feeling."

The top two teams from each four-team, round-robin pool advance to the second round. Powerhouses Cuba and Japan have already advanced and will meet in the final game of Pool A on Wednesday night in Japan (5 a.m. ET). The winner of that game will play the Netherlands in the second round opener on Thursday. The first round of Pool C and Pool D will begin on Thursday in Puerto Rico and Phoenix, respectively.
