  • White Sox's Ryan Brett: Heads to Triple-A

Brett was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

After signing a minor-league deal with the Rangers back in January, Brett was released by Texas partway through spring training. The White Sox picked him up shortly thereafter, and now he'll head to the Triple-A level to replace Daniel Palka, who recently headed up to the majors. Brett seems like nothing more than an organizational depth piece at this point, especially after his slow start with Double-A Birmingham this season (7-for-29, nine strikeouts in 10 games played).

  • Rangers' Ryan Brett: Minors deal with Rangers

Brett agreed to a minor-league contract with Texas on Wednesday.

Brett will add more organizational depth to the Rangers' infield after spending last year in the minor leagues with Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old was only able to play in 20 games due to an ongoing elbow injury that has kept him limited since the start of the 2015 season. He will likely begin this season at Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: To open year on DL

Brett (elbow) will open the year on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Durham, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

He is presumably on the DL due to an ongoing elbow issue that has limited him to just 88 games since the start of the 2015 season. Brett was once seen as a player with a potentially plus hit tool, but the lost time and the fact that he is now 25 have erased any prior prospect intrigue.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Brett was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Brett was once a promising prospect in the Rays system, but after missing the entire 2016 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, the team non-tendered him in the offseason. A healthy Brett re-signed with the team on a minor-league deal in December that included an invitation to spring training, but his 7-of-18 showing from the plate in Grapefruit League play wasn't enough for him to secure an Opening Day roster spot. After a year away from the game, the Rays likely want to see Brett see some extended time at Triple-A Durham before potentially considering him for a promotion.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Belts first homer of spring

Brett hit a solo home run in his one official at-bat in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning Grapefruit League loss to the Yankees and added a sacrifice fly for another RBI.

Brett tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth with a solo shot to left field and then provided what appeared to be an insurance run in the 10th with a sacrifice fly to center. The 25-year-old, looking for a fresh start after missing all of last season with an elbow injury, continues to acquit himself well in his bid to impress, as he's now hitting an even .300 with Tuesday's homer and three overall RBI over 10 at-bats across five spring games.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Hitless in Thursday blowout loss

Brett (elbow) went 0-for-2 in Thursday's 19-2 Grapefruit League loss to the Red Sox.

The 25-year-old non-roster invitee is attempting to revive his career after missing all of 2016 with his elbow injury. Brett has seen plenty of reps so far this spring, as the Rays try to make a robust evaluation of his potential. Factoring in Thursday's hitless outing, the second baseman owns a .222 average (2-for-9) with one RBI and one run over four spring outings. Consistent contact has notably been a problem thus far, as five of Brett's seven outs have come on strikeouts.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Signs minor league deal with Rays

Brett (elbow) signed a minor league deal with the Rays on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

Brett was an interesting second base prospect a few years ago, showcasing a potentially plus hit tool. However, injuries have derailed his career since then, as he missed all of 2016 with an elbow injury. At 25 years old, he could still make some noise, but the odds are against it.

  • Ryan Brett: Non-tendered by Rays

Brett (elbow) was non-tendered by the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Brett missed all of 2016 following Tommy John surgery in mid-May. He spent most of 2015 with Triple-A Durham, where he hit .247 with five home runs and 30 RBI in 354 plate appearances spread across 84 games. The 25-year-old second baseman will be looking for a minor league contract with another club this winter.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Will miss rest of season

Brett will miss the 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in mid-May, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Although the team didn't announce it initially, Brett will indeed be out for the year after beginning it on the DL with a wrist strain. The 24-year-old was assigned to Triple-A Durham following a tough spring in which he went 0-for-11 but didn't have a chance to play before he was once again hampered by injury. Brett's immediate timetable for return will be spring training, but given the severity of this injury, there's no guarantee he will be ready.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: On disabled list

Brett is on the minor league DL with a right wrist flexor strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Brett had an outside chance to crack the major league roster, but he struggled in the spring, going 0-for-11 with four strikeouts. He'll now be sidelined to start the season but could still find his way up to the parent club at some point as middle infield depth.

  • Rays' Ryan Brett: Optioned to minor league camp

Brett was optioned to minor league camp on Tuesday.

Brett worked his way up to the big leagues last season, appearing in three games, but it was unlikely that he'd crack the Opening Day roster. He'll likely begin the season in Triple-A and will serve as organizational depth up the middle of the infield.
