Marlins' Santiago Chavez: Joins player pool

Chavez was added to the Marlins' 60-man player pool Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Chavez's addition will give the team additional depth behind the plate, needed after Will Banfield (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list Wednesday. The Marlins likely won't be expecting Chavez to fill much of a role in Miami this season, as he's yet to reach Triple-A and stumbled to an awful .173/.235/.206 slash line at Double-A Jacksonville last year.
