  • Reds' Jake Wong: DFA'd by Reds

The Reds designated Wong for assignment Tuesday.

One day after earning his first MLB call up, Wong will once again find himself off the 40-man roster. Wong made his debut Monday, surrendering three runs on six hits and three walks over three innings out of the bullpen. He'll presumably return to Triple-A, where he holds a 10.13 ERA and 1.87 WHIP across 18.2 frames.

  • Reds' Jake Wong: Nabs first big-league call-up

The Reds selected Wong's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Cincinnati recently wrapped up a three-game series with Atlanta in which its starting pitchers covered just 10.1 innings, so Wong will join the big club to provide a much-needed fresh arm in the bullpen. The 26-year-old right-hander received his first call to the majors despite posting a 10.13 ERA and 10:16 K:BB in 18.2 innings with Louisville this season.

  • Reds' Jake Wong: Shipped to Cincinnati

Wong was acquired by the Reds on Tuesday to complete the trade that sent Blake Sabol to the Giants last week.

Wong was sidelined in 2021 while he recovered from Tommy John surgery, and he spent last season at the High-A level and had a 4.52 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 108:44 K:BB across 97.2 innings. The 26-year-old should move up to Double-A in 2023 and could see the majors within the next year or two.
