Woods Richardson came away with a no-decision Tuesday against the White Sox, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two batters across 3.2 innings. Woods Richardson was fortunate to only surrender two runs Tuesday after allowing nine men to reach base in less than four innings, but an Eloy Jimenez RBI single and a fielding error from Carlos Santana still put the Twins in a 2-0 hole to begin the game. Woods Richardson now carries a 2.45 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 14.2 innings through three starts, and he will likely get a chance to improve upon his shortest outing of the season Monday against the Mariners.... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Sticking around in rotation
Woods Richardson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox. Woods Richardson will be making his second straight turn through the Minnesota rotation after he was called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday to replace the struggling Louie Varland, who was optioned to the minors. While making his second start with the big club of the season Thursday, the right-hander took a no-decision against the White Sox, striking out six and allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings. The outing was good enough to earn Woods Richardson at least one more turn through the rotation, with the 23-year-old getting another crack against the White Sox on the road.... See More ... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Solid start against White Sox
Woods Richardson gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings in Thursday's win over the White Sox, but he didn't factor in the no-decision. He struck out six. Woods Richardson pitched well enough to likely keep him in the rotation for at least another start or two as the Twins look for a fifth starter. He's shown increased velocity this season with an average 93.2-mph fastball, which is up nearly three ticks from last season. The 23-year-old has given up just three runs with an 11:2 K:BB across 11 innings through two starts.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Starting Thursday
Woods Richardson will be recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday to start against the White Sox, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The 23-year-old righty was originally expected to join the Twins' rotation for Friday's game against the Angels, but he will instead come up a day early to give Bailey Ober an extra day of rest before starting Friday. Woods Richardson fared well during his first big-league start of the year, allowing one run across six innings in a win over the Tigers on April 13. However, he has struggled to find success in the minors, accumulating a 6.08 ERA across 13.1 innings in three starts. Ronny Henriquez will be optioned to St. Paul upon Woods Richardson's arrival.... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Heads back to Triple-A
The Twins returned Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. As expected, Woods Richardson's stay with the Twins was only a temporary one, as he was summoned from St. Paul to serve as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Tigers. He started the second game of the twin bill, earning the win while limiting Detroit to one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings. Woods Richardson should be the Twins' top choice the next time the big club is in need of a spot starter.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Dominant over six frames
Woods Richardson (1-0) pitched six innings in a win over the Tigers on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five. Woods Richardson cruised to his first win Saturday, going 1-2-3 through the Tigers' lineup in five of the six innings in which he appeared. The only slip-up came in the second, when he allowed a leadoff single and a walk to open the frame, which eventually led to a run coming home for Detroit on a sacrifice fly. It was a very impressive performance in the right-hander's first start of the season, and he certainly made a case to stick around in the big leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Making start during doubleheader
The Twins will call up Woods Richardson from Triple-A st. Paul to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Tigers, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The right-hander was rocked for seven runs over 3.1 innings in his last start at St. Paul. However, he's on the 40-man roster and will be on five days rest Saturday, so that's why Woods Richardson is getting the nod. He made one extended relief appearance last season with Minnesota, allowing five runs over 4.2 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Optioned to Triple-A
Minnesota optioned Woods RIchardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Woods Richardson was unscored upon in three appearances this spring, but he never seemed like a serious candidate for the Opening Day roster. The 23-year-old will be used in St. Paul's rotation at the start of the 2024 season.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Sent out after 2023 debut
The Twins optioned Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. After starter Kenta Maeda lasted just two innings in Friday's 3-2 loss to Washington in the series opener while battling an ankle injury, the Twins summoned Woods Richardson from Triple-A on Saturday to give a fresh arm to an overtaxed bullpen. The 22-year-old right-hander ended up serving as an innings eater in relief in the Twins' 10-4 loss Saturday, covering 4.2 frames and striking out five but giving up five earned runs on seven hits and three walks. Woods Richardson will head back to St. Paul a day later with the Twins needing to open up a roster spot for Sunday's starter, Bailey Ober, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Optioned to minors
Woods Richardson was optioned to minor-league camp on Saturday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Woods Richardson made his big-league debut in October of last year but didn't seem to have a real chance to push for a rotation spot this spring. The 22-year-old will continue his development at the Triple-A level, where he recorded a 2.21 ERA over seven starts last season.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Sent back to minors
The Twins optioned Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. Woods Richardson wasn't scheduled to pitch again in 2022 after making his MLB debut Sunday in Detroit, where he struck out three while allowing three runs (two earned) in five innings en route to being handed a loss. The Twins will swap him off the 28-man active roster for right-hander Cole Sands, who will give the team a fresh arm out of the bullpen in Wednesday's season finale against the White Sox.... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Promoted for big-league debut
Woods Richardson had his contract selected from Triple-A St. Paul and will start Sunday against the Tigers, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The 22-year-old was previously confirmed as the starter for Sunday's contest, and he's now officially been called up for his MLB debut. Woods Richardson split the 2022 campaign between Double-A Wichita and St. Paul, and he posted a 2.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 116:37 K:BB over 109.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Gets bumped to Triple-A
The Twins promoted Woods Richardson from Double-A Wichita to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. The 21-year-old right-hander will move up to the Twins' top affiliate after supplying a 3.00 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 78:27 K:BB across 72 innings at Double-A. Woods Richardson was one two prospects the Twins received in last summer's trade that sent Jose Berrios to Toronto.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Back from COVID-19 IL
Woods Richardson (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Woods Richardson hasn't taken the mound for Wichita since June, but he's now cleared the COVID-19 protocols and should soon retake the mound. The 21-year-old has a 3.31 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 54:20 K:BB over 54.1 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Makes organizational debut
Woods Richardson debuted for Double-A Wichita on Saturday, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings in his start against Arkansas. He gave up no hits and struck out two but issued three walks. After acquiring Woods Richardson in the July 30 deal that sent Jose Berrios to Toronto, the Twins have slow played the right-hander's integration into the organization. The 20-year-old's organizational debut was delayed in part due to his commitment to pitching for Team USA in the Olympic Games, and he wasn't immediately activated upon returning from Tokyo. Though he was finally cleared to pitch for Wichita over the weekend, Woods Richardson showed spotty control in the start, tossing only 19 of his 40 pitches for strikes. Consistently finding the strike zone had proved to be an issue for Woods Richardson prior to the trade; he submitted a bloated 12.9 percent walk rate in his 11 starts with the Blue Jays' Double-A affiliate in New Hampshire.... Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson: Deactivated at Double-A
Double-A Wichita moved Woods Richardson to its development list Tuesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. One of two prospects the Twins acquired from the Blue Jays in the July 30 deal that sent Jose Berrios to Toronto, Woods Richardson has yet to debut for his new organization after he played for Team USA in the Olympics. The 20-year-old looks like he may have to wait a while longer to do so, as the Twins may want to work with him to refine his mechanics after a string of poor outings at Double-A New Hampshire prior to being traded. Over his final five starts with the affiliate, Woods Richardson posted a 10.18 ERA, 2.02 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB in 20.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Simeon Woods Richardson: Suddenly skidding in Double-A
Woods Richardson allowed 16 runs on 19 hits and 10 walks across 10.2 innings in his last three starts for Double-A New Hampshire prior to the All-Star break. That leaves the young righty with a 5.53 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 40.2 innings spanning 10 outings with the Fisher Cats. He's shown great swing-and-miss stuff with a 12.8 K/9, but he also has a 4.7 BB/9. It's been an odd campaign so far for the highly regarded young arm, who pitched to a 2.25 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across his first five starts. The good news is that he's still just 20 years old in Double-A -- nearly five years younger than the average player at his level. He's got plenty of time to figure it out, and perhaps a temporary change of scenery will help, as Woods Richardson is part of the U.S. roster for the Olympics.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Simeon Woods Richardson: Heading to big-league camp
Woods Richardson received an invitation Friday to the Blue Jays' major-league spring training, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports. The right-hander didn't appear in any games during 2020 due to the cancelation of the minor-league season, but he was still able to put in some developmental work at the alternate training site. Woods Richardson finished 2019 at the High-A level and had a 2.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 29:7 K:B over 28.1 innings, and he should open 2021 in the upper minors.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Simeon Woods Richardson: Joins 60-man player pool
The Blue Jays included Woods Richardson as part of their 60-man roster pool that was announced Sunday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Woods Richardson's placement in the roster pool appears to be mostly a measure to allow the Blue Jays to oversee his development more closely, given the likelihood that there won't be a minor-league season in 2020. Since Woods Richardson has yet to reach Double-A ball and probably wouldn't find much initial success if he were thrust into major-league action, the Blue Jays don't have much reason to start up his service clock yet.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Simeon Woods Richardson: Fans eight for Dunedin
Woods Richardson gave up three runs on four hits over five innings while striking out eight for High-A Dunedin on Wednesday. Making his second start as a member of the Blue Jays organization, and his second start in the Florida State League, the 18-year-old flashed the upside that made the club target him as part of the Marcus Stroman deal. Woods Richardson is still at least a couple of years away from his big-league debut, but he's another potential frontline arm in a system that's suddenly flush with impressive young pitching talent....
