NASCAR at Michigan starting lineup, qualifying results: Denny Hamlin on pole after rain washes out qualifying
The Cup cars only got a short practice in before rain cancelled all on-track activity for Saturday

Denny Hamlin has been awarded the pole for the Firekeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway after rain washed out most of the NASCAR Cup Series' scheduled on-track activity scheduled for Saturday. The field only got several minutes of practice in before the rains came, forcing the starting lineup to be set per the NASCAR rule book.
In part by virtue of his win a week ago at Richmond, Austin Dillon will start 10th as he and his team go through the process of appealing NASCAR's decision to invalidate his playoff eligibility after the sanctioning body determined Dillon's rough driving was impermissible in regards to allowing his win to count towards the playoffs. Richard Childress Racing's appeal of Dillon's penalty will be heard Wednesday, according to NBC Sports.
Bubba Wallace, who enters this weekend three points above the playoff cut line, starts the best of all playoff bubble drivers in fifth, followed by Ross Chastain in seventh, defending Michigan winner Chris Buescher in 18th, and Ty Gibbs in 19th. Martin Truex Jr., who holds a 78 point advantage on the cut line, starts 24th after suffering an engine failure a week ago.
