Draymond Green was named the winner of the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of The Year award on Monday during the league's awards show. His impact on the Warriors has always been noticed across the league, but this is his first time winning the award. He's frequently been the key anchor to a Warriors defense that would fall off when he left the floor. This season was no different.

Green wins the award ahead of fellow nominees Rudy Gobert and two time DPOY winner Kawhi Leonard. All very deserving, but Green's impact on the dominant Warriors is what voters recognized the most.

What Green provides to the Warriors defensively can never be under stated. His versatility and ability to guard positions 1-5 is invaluable. Not to mention the emotional leadership he provides both on and off the court.

Green is incredibly deserving of winning DPOY. A good argument could have been made for him last season and the season before that, but voters opted to give it to Leonard. Despite multiple roster changes Green was able to help the Warriors maintain their elite level defense for the third straight year and win their second title in three years.
