Lakers got away with Nick Young winner that shouldn't have counted
The NBA says Young traveled before making the sinking the Thunder
Hitting the winning 3 off a pass that wasn't even intended for him, Nick Young was the unlikely hero for the Los Angeles Lakers against Oklahoma City on Tuesday:
Great shot, right? Problem is, it reportedly shouldn't have counted. After the 111-109 loss, Thunder coach Billy Donovan openly complained that Young traveled before taking the shot and, according to Erik Horne of the Oklahoman, the NBA agrees:
The Thunder was informed Wednesday by the NBA that Nick Young committed a traveling violation before his game-winning 3-pointer with five seconds left in a 111-109 Lakers win, The Oklahoman has learned.
There was no Last Two Minute Report for this game because the league only provides those public reports for games that are within five points with two minutes left. The Lakers were up by six with two minutes left before the Thunder cut into their lead. But it seems like the NBA still did its due diligence and reviewed the decisive play.
Unfortunately for the Thunder, they can't do anything about now. The NBA is basically just telling the team that the officials messed up and Oklahoma City has to deal with it, which isn't what a team that could very well be within a game or two of a playoff spot come April wants to hear.
