WATCH: In Nike ad, LeBron calls Game 7 block 'defining moment' of his career
'The Block' will live on forever
As soon as LeBron James blocked Andre Iguodala's shot in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, you knew it was an iconic moment. The greatest player of his generation had sprinted from one side of the court to the other and pulled a chase-down block out of his seemingly bottomless bag of tricks at the most important moment of the season -- and arguably the most important moment of his career.
Here at CBS Sports, we immediately called it one of the best plays in Finals history. Then we broke it down in detail. Awestruck observer Kevin Durant said that James "looked like Batman coming out of nowhere," and later revealed that, if the superhero had not made this super play on the way to a title, he "damn sure" would not have joined the Golden State Warriors to form a super team.
What I'm saying is this singular display of athleticism changed the course of NBA history. And in James' new Nike commercial, he acknowledges as much, referring to The Block as "the defining moment" of his career:
The spot is voiced by James and titled "Come out of Nowhere," which is cleverly the theme of the commercial -- overcoming the odds in life -- and what James did in those moments last June. Released hours before the Cleveland Cavaliers open this season as defending champions, their fans surely will eat this up.
