The Bears' offense looked ugly during the first quarter against the Packers on Thursday, and things might actually get uglier, because they just lost their starting quarterback.

Brian Hoyer broke his left arm during the second quarter of Chicago's game in Green Bay. On a third-and-6 play, Hoyer dropped back to pass, and then ended up getting smashed by Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers.

Hoyer headed to the locker room almost immediately after the hit and was later ruled out of the game. CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson revealed the Hoyer had suffered a broken arm. The quarterback finished his night 4 of 11 for 49 yards.

The injury to Hoyer, who had only been playing because Jay Cutler got hurt (thumb), means that Bears are down to their third-string quarterback: Matt Barkley.

If you haven't heard that name in awhile, it's probably because he hasn't thrown an NFL pass since 2014. If that's not enough to worry Bears' fans, maybe this is: Before Thursday, Barkley hadn't completed a pass since 2013 when he played for the Eagles.

The 2013 fourth-round pick has only thrown a total of 50 passes in his NFL career. Despite the fact that he hasn't played in two years, Barkley didn't look too rusty on his opening drive. The quarterback went 2 of 3 for 18 yards and led the Bears to a field goal, which tied that game at three with just under two minutes left in the second quarter.

The Bears don't have another quarterback on their active roster, which means they'll be in big trouble if Barkley gets hurt. Wolfson reported that the Bears emergency quarterback for Thursday is tight end Zach Miller.
