The hits kept on coming for the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday with the news that rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman suffered a broken hand in practice.

We now know how long he'll be out, as the Browns announced on Thursday Coleman will miss 4-6 weeks with the injury but won't need surgery on the injured mitt.

"Corey Coleman saw a hand specialist this morning," the Browns said in a statement. "It was determined that his fractured hand will not require surgery. He is expected to return in 4-6 weeks."

Coleman, fresh off a two-touchdown breakout performance, was kind of the lone bright spot on a thus-far disaster of a season for Cleveland.

The Browns have lost their starting quarterback (Robert Griffin III), their backup quarterback (Josh McCown) and are forced to start a rookie (Cody Kessler) this week against the Miami Dolphins.

They're 0-2 and have been watching Carson Wentz, the quarterback they passed up at No. 2 overall because this regime didn't believe he had top-20 potential, carve up a pair of below-average defenses -- including their own! -- and lead the Eagles to a 2-0 record.

Now their most promising young player on the offensive side of the ball will miss the next month plus.

The Browns play the Dolphins and Redskins on the road, before returning home for a single week against the Patriots and then playing the Titans and Bengals on the road. They close out October with the Jets at home. So maybe Coleman is back for the Cowboys at home on Nov. 6 in Week 9. The bigger victory would be the Browns securing a win between now and then.

Aside from the fact that the Browns need him, this is critical developmental time for a young wide receiver, and it takes away one of the best weapons Kessler has in his way-too-early debut.
