The Indianapolis Colts are interested in re-signing cornerback Jerraud Powers -- but at the right price. Powers was the Colts' third-round draft choice in 2009.
Coach Chuck Pagano said he hopes Powers "is playing for us (in 2013). If he’s not, he’s going to be playing for somebody and playing good football," according to the Indianapolis Star.
The Indianapolis secondary -- Powers included -- was heavily depleted by injuries. Powers only played eight games, totaling 40 tackles and one interception. But he is considered the Colts' best cover man, and with Vontae Davis playing opposite him, Indy could turn what was a weakness in 2012 into a strength next season.
The Colts understand this, according to Powers' agent, Cliff LaBoy, who says the team is making a push to keep Powers.
“They are making a concerted effort to get something done,’’ LaBoy told the paper. “They want him back. They have made that clear. And Jerraud has made it clear he wants to stay. We’ve had very positive conversations."
But that won't keep Powers from considering other options.
“We’re also aware there will be a market for Jerraud," LaBoy said. "He has a lot to offer and he’s still a very young player.’’
