David Garrard, right, is healthy enough to start working out for teams in search of a quarterback. (US Presswire)

Journeyman quarterback David Garrard, who was in contention to win the Dolphins starting job before he suffered a knee injury in the preseason, is healthy and according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, he’s been cleared to work out for teams.

“He is ready to go,” Garrard’s agent, Albert Irby, told La Canfora.

Garrard, after missing all of last season with back issues following a solid career as the Jacksonville starter, was in contention to take over for Miami this season, ahead of Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill.

But he suffered a freak knee injury while at home, allowing Tannehill to jump in front of Moore and win the job. Soon after, the Dolphins released Garrard.

Garrard’s availability brings up some interesting possibilities, considering four starting quarterbacks were hurt in Week 10. Three of them (Philadelphia’s Michael Vick, San Francisco’s Alex Smith and Chicago’s Jay Cutler) suffered concussions and probably won’t miss much, if any, game action. It's unclear how long Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger will be out after suffering a shoulder injury on Monday night.
