After missing Week 4 with an injury to his right wrist, Titans quarterback Jake Locker got off to a great start Week 5 against Cleveland, looking much like the player who got so much attention on the waiver wire after Week 1 with two touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground. But as has been so common throughout his career, an injury ended his day early. He spent the entire second half on the sidelines, his throwing hand heavily wrapped after he smacked it on a defender's helmet with about five minutes to go in the second quarter.
Whether or not this injury sidelines him for the next several weeks, it's another reminder not to put too much stock into Locker as a sleeper. His particular style of play (he's always been the scrambling sort) seems to invite injury while also stunting his development, which contributed to his performance in Weeks 2 and 3. What results is an inconsistent passer who you can't trust to make it through four quarters.
Locker was almost knocked out earlier in the game when he took a blow to the head after crossing the goal line on his 11-yard touchdown run. You're playing with fire every time you use him. So next time you feel the urge because of his matchups or whatever else, stop and ask yourself if you're being too cute.
