The Philadelphia Eagles may be downplaying their 35-0 shutout loss to the New England Patriots because it was a preseason game. Lane Johnson certainly isn't.

Speaking on the JAKIB Media Sports Postgame Show with Derrick Gunn, Marc Farzetta and Devan Kaney after Thursday's game, Johnson was embarrassed by the Eagles performance -- not mincing any words about how poorly the Eagles played.

"It's terrible," Johnson said. "Anytime you don't put up anything, I don't care what you're doing. If you're in the nature of competing and being in competition, that's unacceptable. It is what it is.

"I don't care if it's preseason or whatnot, there's still a standard to play at this level and represent yourself and to represent this team... We have a lot of work to do and that's coming from me and the veterans, top down."

The Eagles haven't scored in the last six quarters of the preseason, being outscored 52-0 during the stretch. They were outgained in total yards 486-163 and averaged just 3.3 yards per play. Philadelphia was just 2 for 10 on third down, one week after going 0 for 8 on third down against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether Philadelphia played a few starters or not, Johnson found the performance unacceptable.

"We haven't done nothing yet," Johnson said. "We haven't accomplished anything yet."

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni preaches competition to his team, even though the organization itself hasn't demonstrated an ounce of that in the preseason games. The rough performances put even more pressure on Sirianni when the Eagles' regular season begins on Sept. 12.

"Just every time you step out there it's not like just because of who we played or what we ran, doesn't mean we're not competing," Sirianni said. "Every time we step on the field, we want to compete our tails off, and today's game was no exception.

"It's not good enough to come out, play a good game one day, compete the next day and play a little bit better than okay and play bad the third day. That's just not going to work in this league, and that was a good example for our guys to see that's just not what we do. We have to come out and play every day and compete every day."
