The Bellevue, Wash., police department announced in August that it was investigating Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch after he was accused of assault and personal property damage. A few days later, police confirmed that Lynch wasn't involved in an incident after all.

Now the woman who originally accused Lynch has been charged with making a false statement to a public servant, according to the Seattle Times.

The 31-year-old woman told police that Lynch had assaulted her and damaged her purse on Aug. 10, but police discovered that Lynch was at a hotel about a mile away about the time she was allegedly assaulted.

More from the paper:

The investigation also found that although [the accuser] did have injuries from that night, two witnesses said they were the result of a fall, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

One witness, a man the woman apparently thought was Lynch, said he told her multiple times that night that he didn’t play for the Seahawks.

[She] told police the man she was with never identified himself as Lynch, but that “she knew it was him because she is a football fan,” according to a police report.

The 35-year-old man she was with that night is 6 foot 2 and 185 pounds. Lynch is 3 inches shorter and 215 pounds.

The woman has been charged with a gross misdemeanor, and if convicted, she could face up to a year in jail.
