Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has put together a somewhat uneventful 2013: three games of 50 or more receiving yards, but none over 60, and just one touchdown (although he dropped a touchdown pass in Week 5).
But Smith gets to face off against the Vikings in Week 6, a team against which he excels. In six career games against Minnesota, Smith has four touchdowns and averages 104.2 yards. He has gone over 100 yards three times and over 200 yards once.
Smith is far from a sure thing, but he does have two straight seasons of 1,100-plus yards and was close to breaking out last week against the Cardinals. Additionally, the Vikings have given up three 100-yard games in their first four games, with each 100-yard earner also scoring a touchdown.
He's not going to give you a lot of confidence until the scoring starts coming, but Smith can be plugged in as a WR2 for his Week 6 matchup against the Vikings, with the hopes his history against Minnesota and his propensity to break out can shake him from this early-season funk.
