  • Mehdi Abdesmad: Waived by Tennessee

Tennessee waived Abdesmad on Monday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

The Titans needed to open up a roster spot to bring back wideout Tajae Sharpe (foot) from the preseason Physically Unable to Perform list, and it ended up coming at Abdesmad's expense. The defensive end appeared in two games for Tennessee last season, logging one tackle.

  • Titans' Mehdi Abdesmad: Suffers high-ankle sprain

Abdesmad suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday's loss to Jacksonville, Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com reports.

A high-ankle sprain can take as long as six weeks to recover from, though it's possible Abdesmad could play through the injury. His practice status this week will give a better indication of his ability to play in Week 17.

  • Titans' Mehdi Abdesmad: Promoted to active roster

Abdesmad was promoted to the Titans' active roster Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.

With defensive ends Jurrell Casey (foot) and Karl Klug (Achilles) both dealing with injuries, the Titans decided to promote Abdesmad in the hopes of bolstering their defensive line.
