Onwuasor signed his exclusive-rights tender on Monday, according to the league's official transaction log.
Onwuasor is coming off a productive year in Baltimore in which the young linebacker racked up 90 tackles and one sack while taking over as the starting inside linebacker next to C.J. Mosley. He'll need to continue to fend off 2016 second-rounder Kamalei Correa for playing time, but Onwuasor is the early favorite for that same starting role ahead of the 2018 campaign.
Onwuasor finished the year with 90 tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery in 2017.
Despite being undersized and undrafted, Onwuasor took over a starting role in the Raven defense in his second professional season and was a key contributor. Onwuasor was expected to take a backseat to Baltimore's second-round selection from 2016, Kalamei Correa, but he outworked his counterpart in training camp and earned a regular role starting in Week 3. Even with Baltimore mixing and matching personnel, Onwuasor still managed to rack up 90 tackles. Onwuasor showed enough in 2017 to where the Ravens certainly don't need to view inside linebacker opposite C.J. Moseley to be a major area of need heading into the draft.
Onwuasor has 50 tackles and one sack through 10 games this season.
The second-year linebacker is coming off his best performance of the season against the Packers, as he racked up 10 tackles and recorded a fumble. Onwuasor has notched at least six tackles in four of his last five games, and he's playing a strong enough percentage of the snaps to where those numbers are sustainable. He and the Ravens will host Houston on Monday.
Onwuasor (knee) is active for Thursday's game against the Dolphins.
There wasn't much doubt the linebacker would play after logging a full practice on Wednesday. Onwuasor has seen increased defensive reps throughout the season, averaging 61 snaps over the past two contests. The knee injury may limit that number Thursday night, in which case Kamalei Correa could see some increased action in the game.
Onwuasor is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Dolphins with a knee injury.
Onwuasor was able to turn in a full practice Wednesday, so he appears to have decent odds of suiting up. If he plays, Onwuasor would likely be in store for a hefty snap count. He's logged at least 55 snaps in the last two weeks, compiling a total of 13 tackles.
