Steelers' Zach Gentry: Heading to injured reserve
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry will be placed on injured reserve with a left knee sprain, but the injury isn't as severe as initially feared, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Coach Mike Tomlin called the 24-year-old's knee injury "significant" after Sunday's win over Jacksonville, but the actual diagnosis appears a bit more optimistic. Gentry will be sidelined for at least the next three games, but he could return for the Week 15 matchup with the Bengals.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Dealing with severe injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Mike Tomlin said Gentry suffered a "signficant" knee injury during Sunday's win over the Jaguars, Brooke Pryor of reports.

The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but a trip to injured reserve seems likely for the 24-year-old. At the very least, Gentry isn't expected to be available for Thursday's game against the Ravens. Vance McDonald (illness) remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list, and Eric Ebron is the only other tight end on the roster.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Won't return Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry won't return to Sunday's game against the Jaguars due to a knee injury.

Gentry wasn't targeted during the first half before suffering the injury. Eric Ebron is the only available tight end for the Steelers for the remainder of Sunday's contest.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Won't dress Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry (coach's decision) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports.

This news isn't quite surprising, as the 24-year-old has yet to be active for any game this season. Last season, Gentry had a similar role with the Steelers, only catching one pass for four yards across four games. Barring any injuries to the Steelers' tight end room, don't expect anything fantasy-wise from Gentry this campaign.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Inactive in Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry was inactive for Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Ravens.

The Pittsburgh offense underused the tight end position all season resulting in Gentry playing just 50 offensive snaps over the course of four games. He finished the 2019 season catching his only target for four yards. He will likely have a similar role with the team in 2020 so long as Vance McDonald remains the starting tight end.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Healthy scratch Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry (coach's decision) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

The 2019 fifth-round pick out of Michigan made his NFL debut last week, and nabbed his only target for a four-yard catch. With veteran Vance McDonald (concussion) back in the fold, Gentry will have just one more chance this season to join the roster in Week 17.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: One catch in NFL debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry caught his lone target for four yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Bills.

The rookie out of Michigan finally had an opportunity to take the field and caught a short pass over the middle from Devlin Hodges on the opening possession of the second half. That drive resulted in Pittsburgh's only touchdown of the game and was Gentry's only target. Considering that the tight end position has accounted for just 16.7 percent of Pittsburgh's receptions this season, there is no reason to expect Gentry's role to increase in Week 16 against the Jets even if Vance McDonald (concussion) misses his second straight game.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Not playing Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Baltimore, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Gentry stepped into a bigger role with 25 offensive snaps last week against the Bengals (though he wasn't targeted), but he'll be a healthy scratch Week 5 with Vance McDonald (shoulder) ready to play. Nick Vannett will work as the Steelers' No. 2 tight end.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Stepping into bigger role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gentry and Nick Vannett will be the Steelers' available tight ends Monday versus the Bengals with Vance McDonald (shoulder) inactive, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Aside from McDonald, Xavier Grimble (calf) is on injured reserve. To restock the TE room, the team acquired Vannett from the Seahawks last Tuesday. While he's the veteran between him and Gentry, the latter has been in town since he was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 draft. Gentry's first catch as a pro awaits.

Steelers' Zach Gentry: Drafted by Pittsburgh
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Steelers selected Gentry in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 141st overall.

Gentry is an interesting case study as a four-star quarterback prospect who transitioned to tight end early in his time at Michigan. He was ultimately a regular starter at the position the past two seasons and he finished that tenure with 49 receptions, 817 yards and four touchdowns. With plenty of room to continue growing, Gentry has the potential to surface as an interesting complement to Vance McDonald in an offense that no longer rosters Jesse James.
