Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Minimal 2019 impact
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder collected just three passes for 50 yards on four targets during 2019.

Yelder was a darkhorse candidate to see some run behind Travis Kelce at the tight end position but that never really materialized, with the second-year tight end remaining behind Blake Bell for reps. While Bell is set to become an unrestricted free agent, Yelder is an exclusive-rights free agent, meaning the Chiefs could tender him a league-minimum contract and keep him around for another season. Even if Yelder is back and Bell is gone, Yelder remains unlikely to receive much fantasy attention in 2020 as long as Kelce remains healthy.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Makes first impact
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder reeled in both of his two targets for 43 yards Sunday against the Lions.

Yelder had not recorded an offensive snap prior to Sunday's game, but he made the most of his five snaps. He's still behind both Travis Kelce and Blake Bell on the depth chart, though Yelder could prove the better fantasy option should Kelce miss time.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Will be ready for Week 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Andy Reid indicated that Yelder (ankle) "is healthy and ready to roll" ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Jaguars, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

Yelder should slot in as the Chiefs' second-string tight end in the opener after battling an ankle injury during portions of the preseason. The role netted Demetrius Harris just 12 catches for 164 yards and three touchdowns last season, but Yelder could gain fantasy relevance should starting tight end Travis Kelce miss any time

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Donning walking boot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder (ankle) was wearing a walking boot after Saturday's preseason defeat at Pittsburgh, Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star reports.

Yelder may merely be donning the boot until the Chiefs return to Kansas City, where he'll undergo a more thorough evaluation of the injury to figure out the nature and severity. In any case, the tight end is hurting his chances to hold onto the No. 2 role behind starter Travis Kelce. Yelder's primary competitor is free-agent pickup Blake Bell.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Questionable to return Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder left Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers with an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

The injury occurred in the first half. He logged two catches for 31 yards prior to his departure.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Notches touchdown in preseason opener
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder (hamstring) hauled in two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener against the Bengals.

Yelder is slated to serve as the team's top backup at the tight end position this season behind Travis Kelce, and his impact in the opener is a positive sign that he may be able to step in and produce should Kelce miss time. Yelder appeared in just three games as a rookie in 2018 but didn't record any regular-season stats.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Dealing with hamstring injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder missed OTAs and June minicamp with a hamstring injury, Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star reports.

The injury comes at an inopportune time for the 24-year-old, who can compete for the No. 2 tight end spot behind Travis Kelce now that Demetrius Harris is in Cleveland. Yelder's competition comes in the form of John Lovett, whose versatility is very appealing to the Chiefs' staff. Yelder caught on with Kansas City as an undrafted rookie last season and only saw eight snaps -- just one of those on offense -- over three games. At Western Kentucky, Yelder found some success in his senior season, racking up 52 receptions for 688 yards and seven touchdowns over 12 games.

Chiefs' Deon Yelder: Elevated to 53-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder was promoted to the Chiefs' 53-man roster from the practice squad Tuesday.

The undrafted rookie tight end latched on with Kansas City's practice squad after he was cut by the Saints in the preseason. Yelder worked hard enough to earn a promotion, and could see a role primarily on special teams and provide depth at tight end for the Chiefs.

Deon Yelder: Waived by Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yelder was waived by the Saints on Friday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Yelder inked a deal with the Saints after going undrafted in April. The rookie was hopeful to earn a role on special teams and providing depth at tight end. However, he will now be forced to look for a new opportunity unless New Orleans opt to bring him back on its practice squad.
