PHOTO: Marc-Andre Fleury honors Tom Barrasso with throwback mask
Marc-Andre Fleury is paying tribute to Penguins great Tom Barrasso with a throwback mask for when the team is wearing their third jerseys.
The Penguins announced previously that they would wear throwback jerseys as their thirds this year, and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is making sure his own equipment sticks with the theme. Since the uniforms are reminiscent of those the Penguins wore in the early 1990s, Fleury decided that he’d honor the Pittsburgh goalie of that era, Tom Barrasso.
Though Fleury will be rocking the all-yellow pads, which is more a signature of his own, his mask is essentially an exact replica of the one Barrasso wore while backstopping the Penguins to back-to-back Stanley Cups.

That has to be one of the best looks of the 1990s, and it looks great on Fleury today as well.
Here’s a closer view of Fleury's new lid via Pens equipment manager Dana Heinze.
You can't have gold pads without a sick new mask. This one is a throwback to former #Pens goaltender, Tom Barrasso. pic.twitter.com/neXEcEEjHh

(Don’t tell anybody, but I think the Pens should stick with the throwbacks full time. That might just be the nostalgia wafting around me though. Carry on.)
