“Great moments are born from great opportunity,” the legendary Herb Brooks is credited with saying. That’s what Andrew Loewen, goaltender for the Columbus Cottonmouths had last week while his new teammate Shannon Szabados was making history. Loewen was backing up Szabados, the Canadian women's Olympic goalie who became the first woman to suit up in a game in the Southern Professional Hockey League last Saturday.
Since he had the time and because this is the low minor leagues, he became the intermission entertainment.
If you didn’t know (like me), there is a dance called “The Wobble.” Loewen and the Cottonmouths dance team know The Wobble. And when the music started playing, Loewen became the star of the night, doing the dance in full pads.
The crowd went wild.
Loewen has appeared in 37 games with the Cottonmouths this year with a 2.73 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. He may not be the best goaltender in the league, but we’re going to declare him the SPHL’s best dancer.
Steph (@myregularface) has the all-important Loewen GIF:
I would pay good money to see a danceoff between Loewen and this guy from Norway. Untold sums of money.
