Newpower was summoned from AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday.
Newpower has a goal, six points and 39 PIM in 20 contests with Grand Rapids this season. The 26-year-old hasn't played in the NHL yet. With Ben Chiarot (upper body) set to miss Saturday's game against Vegas, Newpower gives the Red Wings a seventh healthy defenseman as an insurance policy.

Red Wings' Wyatt Newpower: Heads back to AHL
The Red Wings assigned Newpower to AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday.
An undrafted defenseman who gained prominence with the University of Connecticut, Newpower returns for his fourth season with the AHL's Griffins. Detroit bolstered its defense in the offseason, which makes it unlikely that Newpower ascends to the big stage this campaign unless the Wings get hit severely by injuries on the blue line.
