Semyonov has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.
Semyonov has been successful in limited action with AHL Toronto this season, having racked up nine points through nine games, but he's likely decided he'd rather get big minutes with a KHL club in his native Russia than play in the minors in North America. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 27-year-old forward remain overseas for the rest of his playing career.

Semyonov has yet to make his NHL debut but has impressed with nine points in nine games with the Marlies this year. This seems like a paper move for the organization, but given his strong AHL numbers, it wouldn't be an outright shock if the Maple Leafs gave Semyonov a shot sooner rather than later.
