  • Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Garners two-year contract extension

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/1/17) Sparks agreed to a two-year contract renewal with the Maple Leafs on Saturday, Kristen Shilton of TSN reports, adding that his deal is worth $675,000 annually.

Sparks was a restricted free agent, meaning his new deal could've been announced before the inception of Saturday's free-agency signing period, but in the end the Leafs decided to secure the services of Sparks, a minor leaguer, as well as Frederik Andersen's backup in Curtis McElhinney, who also received a two-year extension. Fantasy owners won't be fighting over Sparks -- who famously pitched a shutout in his 2015 debut -- in any setting, unless he can find a way to carve out playing time in the NHL.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Sent down to minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/12/17) Sparks has been reassigned to AHL Toronto, Kristen Shilton of TSN reports.

Sparks' demotion is a good indicator that starter Frederik Andersen (head) is ready to go for Game 1 against the Capitals on Thursday. The 23-year-old Sparks was called up on a handful of occasions this season due to injuries, but he never actually hit the ice for the Leafs. Back in the minors, he finished the season ranked fourth in the league in GAA at 2.07, a stat boosted by his five shutouts.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Returns to top level for finale

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/9/17) Sparks was recalled from the team's AHL Toronto affiliate Sunday, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.

Sparks' recall likely suggests that Frederik Andersen (head) will be unavailable for the team's finale. No update has been provided beyond Saturday's tilt, but he only recorded three saves before leaving the contest. Should the issue last into the postseason, it's possible Sparks will stick around for backup duties, but he's unlikely to see action in the blue paint.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Heads back to minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/29/17) Sparks was sent down to AHL Toronto on Wednesday.

This transaction indicates that goalie Frederik Andersen will be returning from his upper-body injury Thursday, especially since the starting netminder reportedly took the charter to Nashville. Sparks hasn't played a single NHL game this season, though he's shown well in the minors, posting an 18-7-0 record, 2.08 GAA and .927 save percentage.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Back at top level

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/27/17) Sparks was recalled from AHL Toronto on Monday, David Alter of The Athletic reports.

Sparks hasn't played a game at the NHL level this season, but will rejoin the roster likely to back up Curtis McElhinney during Tuesday's contest against the Panthers. He probably won't see any time between the pipes during his stint with the club, leaving him with little fantasy appeal.
