  • Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Blitzed by Bruins

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/10/18) Sparks stopped 29 of 34 shots in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Bruins.

Toronto's backup netminder simply couldn't handle the pressure applied by Boston's top line, and David Pastrnak walked away with a hat trick as a result. Sparks now has an .879 save percentage through three starts on the season, and the Leafs won't be encouraged to give Frederik Andersen more rest after this performance.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Gets rare start against B's

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/10/18) Sparks will start in goal Saturday for a road clash with the Bruins, Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports.

Hopefully, Sparks has been taking notes on Frederik Andersen's stellar play, as Toronto's No. 1 netminder owns an off-the-charts .968 save percentage through four November starts. This will be just the third start of the season for the understudy, who will be tested by a Bruins team with a top line (David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron) averaging well over a point per game.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Turns aside 33 shots in win over Kings

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/15/18) Sparks stopped 33 of 34 shots in Monday's 4-1 win over the Kings.

The 25-year-old is now 2-0 to begin the campaign, although Sparks' performance in this one was a lot better than in a 7-6 overtime victory over Chicago back on Oct. 7. Frederik Andersen will continue seeing most of the action in net for Toronto, but outings like this one could put Sparks between the pipes more than once a week.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Gets start against Kings

(10/15/18) Sparks will be between the pipes at home against the Kings on Monday, Kristen Shilton of TSN reports.

Sparks' first start of the year was less than ideal, as he allowed six goals on 31 shots. Last season, the 25-year-old was one of the best goalies in the AHL, posting a 1.79 GAA and .936 save percentage, so we'll see if Sparks can bounce back in his second outing.

Maple Leafs' Garret Sparks: Allows six in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/7/18) Sparks was beaten six times on 31 shots in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Blackhawks.

Sparks was shaky in what was a wild, back-and-forth affair. Three goals came in the final two minutes of the game, with Sparks yielding two of them (both to Patrick Kane). The puck had eyes Sunday, but nonetheless, Sparks needs to be much better moving forward as Toronto looks to reduce Frederik Andersen's workload in 2018-19.
