The 2024 Paris Games are kicking off soon, and as athletes make themselves comfortable in the Olympic Village, this is the perfect time to look at what essential or interesting items they decided to bring with them.

The cardboard beds are back so mattress toppers are a popular answer, as are video games in order to pass the time. However, there will be at least one Olympian making friendship bracelets, and another making sure his nails are perfectly clean.

Here is a list of what athletes decided to take to the Olympic Village.

Noah Lyles -- Track & Field

"My computer so I can play League of Legends. It's a must have. I gotta find something to do in between days," he said. "There is going to be a week where I'm not doing any racing so I need something to occupy my time. I hope the wifi is good in the Olympic Village."

Lyles won the bronze medal in the men's 200-meter race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, he is not a fan of it because he didn't feel he was at his best, and now he wants to use that feeling as motivation.

"I think I'm going to bring my bronze medal to these Olympics, just to remind myself every day what the goal is," he shared. "I'm not a fan of it just because I know that year, and most years, I was coming in as the dominant favorite in the 200m, and it was just a really rough year mentally. Physically as well because I couldn't get my mind right as much as I was trying to feel better."

Something he is not packing are the Yu-Gi-Oh! cards he took to the US Olympic trials.

Brittney Griner -- Women's Basketball

"I used to say hot Cheetos, but at 33 I'm leaving them at home now," she said. "Nothing really unique, but I'm taking my Xbox. I gotta get on 'Call of Duty.'"

Griner says she normally plays zombies and by herself, not in a competitive way like Bronny James -- who won $10,000 during the Summer League "Call of Duty" tournament.

Nick Mayhugh -- Paralympics Track & Field

"I'm a hygienic freak, especially nail care, so my nail clippers. I just remember my grandfather always took very good care of his nails. My dad did the same," he said. "I remember watching them drive and they were cutting their nails at stoplights and stuff. I've always been super anal about it for some reason."

Mayhugh, who won three gold medals and one silver in Tokyo, said the cardboard beds in 2021 were uncomfortable, so this time he will bring a mattress topper. But the most significant item he packed is something that reminds him of his grandfather, who passed away in 2018.

"Before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and passed away, he passed down a necklace to my dad, and then he passed it down to me. I always wear it when I race," said Mayhugh, who has been advocating for people to act early on their memory and thinking issues.

"At the end of the day, I'm very thankful and very blessed to have had the experience and the time that I did with my grandfather, but I would trade any of my gold medals or any one of my world records to spend a day with him."

Breanna Stewart -- Women's Basketball

"I'm taking my kids and that's pretty interesting because that is going to be a whirlwind," she said.

While she took her own packing seriously, her kids suitcases required a little extra thought.

"Honestly? Yeah, probably the most important thing to pack was like Ruby's toys. She's like, really particular at night. She wants to like bring these little Paw Patrol characters to sleep. So making sure we had all of them because if we didn't, then I don't know what we're gonna do. And for Theo like he's, he's teething so like constantly having the little teething thing."

Nia Akins -- Track & Field

"My guitar, hopefully. Yeah, I mean, definitely. I brought my guitar (to the US Olympic trials), and my cat honestly. I just packed all my things and was like we are taking all the therapeutic things. I'm going to have someone watch my cat, but I'm bringing my guitar for sure."

Akins took up music in 2020 and has even released her own songs on Spotify.

"It's something I've always wanted to do, learn how to play the guitar. Once I got to college I was just so busy that it was kind of in the back burner. When [COVID-19] hit I was like, well I got lots of free time. Now it's the time to take on the new hobby."

Brandon Miller -- Track & Field

"Obviously start off with the spikes and running shoes from Brooks, the Hyperion and the MD, the competition shoe," he said. "I have my Beats. Need these before races, after races. I never go anywhere without these.

"...If I'm really pumped up I'll but on some praise and worship to calm me down. But if I need to get pumped up, I'm not gonna lie I love Meek Mill and I love GloRilla. I started listening to her recently and she's really good."

Miller also shared other types of self-care items.

"I have my Bible. Need it always. Big essential," he said. "And I have my bonnet. My bonnet so when I sleep my hair don't be out, so my hair is not messed up. Especially on a bed that I don't know where it has quite been or who has been on it. And then last but not least, my roller. Gotta work those muscles out and keep me healthy."

Chari Hawkins -- Heptathlon

"As soon as I get to Paris, I am going on a hunt to find a nice pillow and comforter," she said. "I saw the beds in the Olympic Village and I want to make sure that I can have a great night's sleep.

"I will bring some friendship beads to make friendship bracelets for my friends and family that are coming. I received a bracelet at the Olympic Trials and it made me so happy. Additionally, I will make sure to bring my recovery products to capitalize on my downtime inside the village so that I can be ready for the competition."

Jackie Young  -- Women's Basketball

"Yeah, I had to make sure I bought enough gum, sweet mint gum, and to make sure I had a couple of brushes with me. Obviously my phone, my iPad. Make sure I have my headphones with the cord even though I lost them on the first day.

"Actually, [Kelsey Plum] stole them on the first day and she just gave them back today after I had already bought a new pair...  and they didn't even work with her phone."
