Leipzig get Atalanta as Barca draw Frankfurt and West Ham land Lyon

After the excitement of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals draw, there was also the Europa League and the Europa Conference League on Friday. The final eight of the Europa League boasts some familiar names with Barcelona, West Ham United, RB Leipzig, Atalanta BC, Olympique Lyonnais, and Eintracht Frankfurt in the draw. The Germans against the Italians is arguably the pick of the ties, but Barcelona going to Frankfurt promises to be a spectacle while Lyon should provide West Ham with another stern test, and SC Braga against Rangers is also full of intrigue. Should Barca advance, they could face West Ham while Leipzig or Atalanta will get one of Braga or Rangers en route for the final in Seville.

Leipzig vs. Atalanta

This could quite easily have been a Champions League game in recent years but both teams dropped out early this year and are looking to go all the way here instead. The Germans got a bye into the quarterfinals after drawing Spartak Moscow while Atalanta overcame Bayer Leverkusen to reach this stage.

Frankfurt vs. Barcelona

Although they do not have much recent European pedigree compared with Barca, this will be a huge game for Frankfurt and their fans. Not only is it the chance to reach the semifinals of the Europa League, one of the continent's top sides will be coming to town for what promises to be a very special occasion.

West Ham vs. Lyon

The Hammers' reward for ousting Sevilla the year that their stadium plays host to the final is a tricky tie with Lyon who are out of sorts domestically but often save their best for Europe. Not only did OL dispose of Porto in the last round, they have a strong record in this edition and were surprise Champions League semifinalists as recently as 2019-20.

Europa Conference League draw

Meanwhile, the Europa Conference League quarterfinals look like this with Roma reunited with Bodo Glimt and Leicester City draw against PSV Eindhoven with Feyenoord also Dutch representatives. Marseille have PAOK and will believe in their chances of reaching the final given that their potential semifinal opponents are either Feyenoord or Slavia Prague.
