Cardinals place 1B Matt Adams on DL with quadriceps injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Cardinals placed first baseman Matt Adams on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a strained right quadriceps. Adams was injured in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Adams could miss significant time, if he needs surgery, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Mark Reynolds will likely take over as the team's starting first baseman in Adams' absence. Adams has started a team-high 35 games at first base, while Reynolds has started the other 11 games.

Adams heads to the DL mired in a pretty long slump. He is batting just .159 in his last 20 games, dropping his season average from .309 to .243.

Cardinals 1B Matt Adams sits on Tuesday vs. left-hander
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams will be out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Mets. Mark Reynolds will get the start in his place.

With the Mets throwing a left-hander on the mound Tuesday, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was quick to dismiss any thoughts of a possible platoon. He told MLB Network Radio that he does believe Adams will hit left-handed pitching on a "consistent basis".

Nevertheless, Adams will sit on Tuesday. This season, Adams has just three hits (zero home runs) in 20 at-bats against left-handed pitching.
