Scherzer shut down for final week: From The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Max Scherzer was shut down for the rest of the season after he went five innings in a 4-0 loss to San Diego on Friday, giving him 170 1/3 innings this year. The Diamondbacks' target total was 170-175 innings. Scherzer was 9-11 with a 4.12 ERA in 30 starts in his first full season in the majors. "All in all, I think this season was a great step forward for him," manager A.J. Hinch said. "I wish we could have gotten that 10th win for him and ended it on a little better note. To be able to get up to 170 innings and take the ball every time we asked him to was a pretty productive year." Scherzer logged 133 innings in 2008, 56 with the D-backs, for whom he went 0-4 with a 3.05 ERA.
